James "Big Jim" Rennie is a car salesman and councilman from Chester's Mill. He becomes the de facto mayor/military governor when the town is cut off from the rest of the world. His philosophy on running the town is to monopolize resources in his favor and kill anyone that stands in his way. He appoints deputy Linda Esquivel to sheriff and finds recruits for various missions (i.e. hunt for fugitive Paul Randolph, battle over Ollie's well, and currently the "state of emergency"). He might have the right intentions in the first part of the season, but he's quickly taken by the need for power and control. He has clashed numerous times with the more diplomatic Barbie.
